Capitalism

I spend a lot of time thinking about money, but perhaps in a way many people might find odd in modern America: I think about the nature of capitalism, its strengths and weaknesses, and how we should use it.

I think capitalism is absolutely critical to modern civilization; it’s a foundational element of our economy, a fixture in our lives, and a key enabler of progress. But it’s also the key cause of inequality in our society, a tool that is being used to dismantle our democracy, and a powerful impediment to innovation.

How can all of this be true?

I think capitalism is not an end in itself, but a means to an end. We should use modern capitalism as a tool to help us build and sustain a better society. How should we do this? I think a lot about this topic and would like to share some of my ideas and questions as my journey continues, and invite your reflections.
